What is the difference between joining and blending in Tableau? Tableau Interview Question

Tableau Interview Question:
What is the difference between joining and blending in Tableau?
Joins in Tableau:
For EX: your client is in Healthcare domain and using SQL Server as their database. In SQL server there may be many Tableau like Claims Table, Rejected Claims Table, Customers Table.  Now, client wants to know customer wise Claims and customer wise rejected Claims. Here you have to make use Joins concept to combine the data from Join Customers table with Claims and Customer table with Rejected Claims table using the Joins. Join is a query that combines the data from 2 or more tables by making use of Join condition.
We can join max 32 table, it’s not possible to combine more than 32 tables.
In Tableau the joins can perform in 2 ways.
1. By making use of common columns.
2. By making use of common data types.

If we create joins on the fields in Tableau all the table names are suffixing with $.
While performing the joins on multiple tables, always go with the less amount of data tables, so that we can improve the performance.

In Tableau the joins are divided into 2 types.
1. Equi Join,
2. Non Equi Join.

1. Equi Join: in the join condition if we are using Equality “=“operator then such a kind of join called as Equi Join.

2. Non Equi Join: in the join condition apart from the Equality “=“if we use any other operator like <, >, <=, >= and =! Then such a kind of joins are called as Non Equi Join

Equi Join is divided into 3 types.

1. Inner Join,
2. Outer Join,
3. Self-Join.

1. Inner Join: Inner join will loads the only matching records from the both tables.
Inner join condition: =

2. Outer Join
Again the outer join divided into 3 types.
           a. Left Outer Join,
           b. Right Outer Join,
           c. Full Outer Join.

Left Outer Join: displays the complete data from the left + matching records from the right.
Condition: = (+).

Right Outer Join: displays the complete data from the right + matching records from the left.
Condition: (+) =

Full Outer Join: full outer join load the complete data from the left table and right table.
Condition: Table A full outer join Table B ON =

3. Self-Join: if we are performing join to the same table itself such a kind of join called as self-join.

Non Equi Join:
In the join condition if we are using the operators apart from the equality “=” then such a kind of joins are called as non equi join.

Data Blending in Tableau:
For Ex: Your client is same Healthcare Client. They are operating their services in Asia, Europe, NA and so on & the are maintaining Asia data in SQL, Europe Data in SQL Server and NA data in MY SQL.
Now, your client wants to analyze their business across the world in a single worksheet. So you cant perform join here..
Now you have make use of Data Blending Concept.
Normally in the Tableau we can perform the analysis on the single data server. If we want to perform the analysis from the multiple data sources in a single sheet then we have to make use of a new concept called as data blending.
Data blending mix the data from the different data sources and allow the users to perform the analysis in a single sheet. Blending means mixing. If we are mixing the data sources then it is called as data blending.
Rules to perform the data blending
In order to perform data blending there are few rules.
1. If we are performing the data blending on 2 data source these 2 data sources should have at least 1 common dimension.
2. In that common dimension at least 1 value should match.

In Tableau we can perform the data blending in 2 ways.
1. Automatic way
2. Custom way
1. Automatic way:
in the automatic way Tableau automatically defines the relationship between the 2 data sources based on the common dimensions and based on the matching values and the relationship is indicated with Orange color.
2. Custom or Manual way:
in the manual or custom way the user need to define the relationship manually .

Data blending functionality
1. While performing the data blending each work sheet has a primary connection and optionally it might contains several secondary connections.
2. All the primary connections are indicated in the Blue in the work sheet and all the secondary data sources indicated with the Orange color tick mark.
3. All the primary data sources and the secondary data sources are linked by specific relationship.
4. In the data blending 1 sheet contains 1 primary data source and 1 sheet can contain end number of secondary data sources.

Are you prepare for PetsHotel Pet Care Specialist(Pet Sitting job)? Then following interview questions with answers is for you which are asked during PetsHotel Pet Care Specialist job interview, we collect best questions with answers from, So now you don't need to search here/there, just go through following set of questions and crack your interview, best of luck. PDF will be available soon, after we complete top 100 interview question.

1). What experience do you have?
Ans: Tell them anything pertaining to animals! Ever babysat someones python before? Tell them! I am a dog walker/pet-sitter/baby-sitter. My experience let them know that I was capable of dealing with stress (KIDS) and animals.

2). What kinds of animals do you have experience with?
Ans: Be honest. They will find out if your not when they ask you to care for an animal and you look like you have no idea what you're doing! I've cared for small rodents before but 'm kinda rusty. Told them I had no experience with birds and they said I would be trained to care for them.

3). Are you scared of any of the animals?
Ans: Answer honestly!! They will try and work with you if you have a phobia of snakes (or birds, I don't judge) I again told her I was nervous about the birds because I had never handled them before.

4). If an animal died while under your care, what would you do?
Ans: Ask a manager, to make sure all policies are followed and no mistakes are made.

5). How would you deal with pet parent with aggressive dog?

6). Do you have any allergies?
Ans: Be honest, they'll work with you. But seriously, why would you work at a pet store if you have allergies?

7). How would you go up to a dog you thought was cute to pet it?
Ans: I said I'd first ask the owner if I could pet their dog, let it sniff my hand, and then pet it. She said that was a perfect answer because you're not supposed to just run up to someone's dog and touch it without their permission.

8). What is your comfort level with different animals?
Ans: Don't lie. If you can still handle all of the animals I wouldn't mention not liking them, but if you are absolutely terrified of snakes or lizards (or hamsters, I guess) this probably isn't the right job for you.

9). Name one of the hardest things you had to learn recently?
Ans: Gave a personal answer relating to my friends.

10). Do you understand that a good portion of this job is   cleaning cages and tanks?
Ans: I said yes, I knew that before I applied. I didn't care

11). How would you deal with a very difficult customer?
Ans: I gave the "customer is always right" line, and she followed up asking what I would do if there was still no pleasing them. I told her I didn't know (this was my first ever interview, OK?) and she told me the answer she was looking for would be requesting help from a manager.

12). What pets do you have?
Ans: Emphasize your skills with animals they sell in addition to your dog or cat. I said I have a hamster and have worked with birds.

13). What was a time you had a difficult experience with a   customer? What happened?
Ans: I told a story about a time I was working at a restaurant and a woman got mad at me for something beyond our control. I told the interviewer how I resolved the problem. It was a resolution that made the customer mad, but I emphasized that that is what the management wanted and ultimately - it's not my business, it's theirs.

14). Why do you want to work at PetSmart?
Ans: I love working with animals, and am planning on having a career with them

15). Is there anything that you would refuse to work with, such as snakes, or crickets?
Ans: Be honest. If you are allergic or too frightened to touch an animal in the store just tell them, and they will do their best to work with you. Many people I worked with had allergies, and one had a phobia of snakes.

16). How do you communicate when you are unsatisfied?
Ans: I told her that I always communicate any sort of discontent or disagreements I may have.

17). Tell me about a time you had to deal with a difficult customer. What did you do? Were you able to resolve the issue.
Ans: I was specific. I told about a time from another company the an elderly man had walked into my office demanding a product that my company offered, but I did not have anything to do with. He was very angry and wanted to quit his service with us. I told him I could help him get that product and offered him a seat while I called the appropriate department. Luckily the department I needed was in the same building. One of the supervisor came down with the product he needed. He left satisfied and we retained the customer.

18). Tell me about your past experience with pets. Which animals do you know best?
Ans: I worked at 2 small pet shops previously where I cared for birds, reptiles, fish and small mammals. I know birds well. I can trim wings, nail and file beaks. I have also hand-fed parrots, and raised lovebirds and cockatrices. I also know reptiles very well and have hatched leopard gecko eggs. I can force feed reptiles and snakes if needed.

What is the difference between Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server, Tableau Public and Tableau Online?

Tableau Interview Question :

What is the difference between Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server, Tableau Public and Tableau Online?
Ans: Tableau Desktop:- All your development is done here. From creating reports, charts, formatting them, putting them together as a dashboard all the work is done on Tableau Desktop.

Tableau Server:- The dashboards you create are shared with other users using Tableau Server. When you upload(publish) a Dashboard to Tableau Server from Tableau Desktop, other users can access those Dashboards by logging on Tableau Server.

Tableau Public:- It's a free product from Tableau. Visualization Enthusiast can play with data using Tableau Public. It has its limitation. You can only use limited data(no. of rows), can only connect excel or text file (no database connectivity) & anything you save in Tableau Public will be saved on Tableau Public Sever which anyone can download (no confidentiality).

Tableau Online:- I haven't use Tableau online but it's an alternative to Tableau Server in which the servers are on Cloud. Servers are not maintained by users but by Tableau guys. Needs subscription fees.

What are the weakness/disadvantages of using Tableau Desktop Software? / Interview questions

TEBLEAU INTERVIEW QUESTIONS ANSWERS : One of the best Interview questions is here

What are the weakness/disadvantages of Tableau Desktop Software?
*Not comprehensive solution, specialize in BI
    *No predictive analytical capabilities
*Customization and Integration with other apps
    *Expandability for analytics
*Hard to integrate with Social media

  • Not comprehensive solution, specialize in BI Tableau Software is an easy to use BI application, but still not a platform for developing analytic applications that can be broadly shared. It is not designed for enterprise wide deployments that have broad business and technical user populations.

  • No predictive analytical capabilities Tableau Software allows users to only analyze what has happened. And, Tableau Software does not have any statistical or predictive capabilities (they do not support SAS, S+, R, ect. like Spotfire does). Therefore users cannot model or project the best cross-selling or upselling opportunities. In fact Tableau Software is statistically “challenged” and is extremely limited; providing users with less statistic functions than Microsoft Excel.

  • Customization and Integration with other apps Due to its not open-source based nature and market commodity, Tableau Software cannot be customized or integrated with other applications (such as®). Basically what comes in the box is what you get. No way to extend it. However, their official website has Forum section, users could vote for their ideas, whenever reaching the threshold, the company would response and probably add such features in the following version and update for purchased packages.
  • Expandability for analytics  Tableau Software does not support expanded analytic such as Box plots, network graphs, tree-maps, heat-maps, 3D-scatter plots, Profile Charts or data relationships tool which allow users to mine data for relationships like another data visualization software does.
  • Social media integration Tableau Software does not integrate collaborative capabilities into social platforms (like Twitter, Microsoft SharePoint, etc.). A very hot trend. It is for Business users to share their findings and progress. Think of it like – email meets Twitter meets Facebook. Due the current trend and users’ need, Tableau has integrated Google Analytics into its platform.
  • Robust enterprise-class security Tableau Software is not organizationally equipped to serve enterprise customers. Tableau Software lacks robust enterprise-class security (only supports Microsoft Active Directory). Therefore post-sale customer support and training are quite limited.

  • Tableau's Server solution has low concurrent user support at ~40 per 8 core server. Customers end up buying many more Tableau Server cores than they initially estimate to achieve acceptable performance.
  • Tableau's poor technical support is an annual pain point with customers. Tableau support pales when compared to Microsoft Premier Support.
  • Tableau's conditional formatting and limited 16 column table displays are pain points for most Excel users. Even in the Public Preview, Power BI supports more than 16 columns.
  • Tableau's mapping does not support address level mapping with providing geocoded latitude/longitude. Power View maps have has that support for a few years now.
  • There is no equivalent to Power Query for data cleansing and transformation that takes up most business analyst time – getting data reporting ready. They refer folks to use Alteryx or another ETL tool.
  • Tableau has weak semantic modeling and data modeling. Analysis Services and Power Pivot are best in class with regards to data modeling.
  • Tableau no version control, governance and other commonly desired enterprise level features.
  • Tableau's parameters are static meaning any change to data requires republishing the dashboard.
  • Tableau does not offer top requested export dashboard to Excel or PowerPoint.
  • Tableau does not offer top requested mobile BI data-driven alerts that Power BI does now offer.
  • Tableau does not offer Q&A for natural language queries.
  • Tableau does not offer support for streaming dashboards. You need to add JavaScript to the Tableau Server to try to emulate real-time. You can add code to Tableau Cloud.
